She encouraged his mother to escape, and she eventually managed to get a credit card and formulated an escape plan. Luckily for them, his mother had a neighbour, 'Betty', who was aware of the situation in the Goggins' household. Trunnis used to force the family to go to the Batavia Downs horse race track where he used to gamble away his money, while chain smoking and binge drinking as the family watched him as all his money ran out.
